When people think of Odoo, they often think of a powerful ERP platform that streamlines everything from CRM to inventory and project management. But Odoo Accounting? That’s an entirely different story — and one that deserves the spotlight.
In the second episode of our new season, we sit down with Wynand Tastenhove, Business Development Manager at Odoo, and Maarten Gerits, Accounting Expert at Dynapps, to explore how far Odoo Accounting has come — and where it's going.
The Misconception: "Odoo is ERP, not accounting"
According to Maarten, this is one of the most persistent myths they encounter.
"It’s a common misconception — especially among clients and accountancy firms — that Odoo isn’t a real accounting system. But that phase is long behind us. Today, it’s a fully mature accounting solution."

And he's right. What once started as an ERP tool with light financial functionality has evolved into a robust, scalable, and compliant accounting suite — trusted by thousands of businesses and accountancy firms across Europe.
From Fear to Full Integration
Wynand takes us back to the early days, when Odoo Accounting was often overlooked or postponed due to fear and lack of knowledge.
"Accounting was always pushed aside because people were afraid of it. They didn’t understand bookkeeping, so they avoided it. Today, more than 2,000 accounting firms use Odoo. And once you get the basics in, it’s just a matter of adding a few apps — and your entire bookkeeping runs on Odoo."

It’s that simplicity — combined with deep integration across business functions — that’s redefining how companies think about finance software.
Innovation Driven by Real Feedback
What’s behind this evolution? A strong product team — and an even stronger connection to the field.
"We have a very strong R&D department," Wynand explains, "but that’s only part of it. 20% of what we build has to come directly from the business. That’s why we work so closely with accountants and accountancy firms. It gives us the time to collect, test, and implement that feedback into the product."

This continuous loop between developers and finance professionals ensures that Odoo remains relevant, practical, and future-proof.
Ready for What’s Next: Peppol and Beyond
With Odoo 18, the platform now supports Peppol e-invoicing out of the box — a critical step ahead of Belgium’s mandatory digital invoicing regulation coming into force in 2026. Thanks to a fully integrated and free Peppol access point, companies can send and receive e-invoices securely, without the need for external tools.
It’s one more sign that Odoo Accounting is not only catching up — it’s setting the pace.
